Beneath the familiar...
Sunrise West Beach 10:1:21.jpeg

October 1st, 2021

Hello dear Yogi friends... from the southern coast of California...

This is a photo of the sunrise this morning. It took me by surprise that it is possible to see the sunrise while looking over the Pacific. Really?! But here it is, this morning from our small balcony facing the West Beach area of Santa Barbara's waterfront... which actually runs east-west, hence the sunrise:) I've never been here before and it's reminding me of the delight one can experience when being somewhere for the first time.

Everything is fresh and new and I'm more fully realizing what John O'Donohue meant when he said the sense of adventure and wonder one initially experiences upon encountering a place, cannot be repeated. I didn't say that as eloquently as he did but I think I understand it. And I understand it in terms of our yoga as well. How can we practice in a way that allows us to keep meeting places in ourselves as if we are meeting them for the first time?

It's challenging particularly because we tend to become overly familiar with ourselves and I suppose with our lives in general. How do we keep diving beneath the familiar? I don't know if any of this resonates with you but I leave you for the month of October in contemplation of what lies beneath the familiar.

NO CLASSES IN OCTOBER

I will miss you but see you in November... classes will be resuming Monday, November 1st.
