ABOUT

The Yoga Experience

A warm welcome to relax into a vibrant, playful, and peacefully energizing practice of yoga that supports you as an individual.

No two people experience yoga in the same way. The feelings, sensations, and emotions you meet along the way will be different from the person on the mat next to you. Your experience will be uniquely yours, and my interest is in helping you creatively find and trust your own practice.

Each person brings their own physical, mental, and emotional story. As that story is allowed to express itself through the body, the more free and fluid the practice will become. The environment I endeavor to create is safe, nourishing, non-competitive, supportive, playful, and intriguing. Feel free to come as you are and explore.

MOLLY DRAKE

My love of nature and yoga are pretty basic to who I am. When asked why I practice yoga, I can only respond by saying, I can’t imagine not practicing.

I enjoy helping others discover different aspects of themselves through their personal practice. It’s endless, the fresh new ways we can meet ourselves and I hope to help you enjoy learning and expanding how you breathe, move and live in your body. The guidance I offer comes from my on-going practice and everyday life experiences. I am forever learning!

Seed

My fascination with yoga began in the mid-sixties when I was nine years old. My great uncle had given me a book called ‘Yoga for Americans’ by Indra Devi. Soon I was practicing the poses anywhere I could, including climbing out of my bedroom window onto a level part of the roof. My love for yoga grew quickly, but I kept quiet about it because it wasn’t common knowledge in those days. It wasn’t until college that I took my first yoga class.

The Seasons

My first yoga class was on a hill in Hawaii in 1973. My early studies included years of focused training in the Iyengar tradition. I focused on precision, disciplined alignment, and intense striving and it served me well and still influences my practice and teaching. But I experienced a turning point in 1996 when I took my first class with world-renowned teachers Angela Farmer and Victor vanKooten.

Learning to Trust My Body

Working with Angela and Victor introduced me to a more free-form and organic experience of yoga. It was through this experience that I learned to relax, trust, and allow the poses I had done for years to unfold in a more gentle and powerful way.

I now share this approach with my students through a variety of classes, retreats, and workshops. In a wide-open, non-dogmatic approach I focus on encouraging each practitioner to pay attention to where they are, what they are feeling, and how they are evolving.

One of the most satisfying moments for me as a teacher is when a student vocalizes, ‘Wow, I get it! - I have never felt that before.’ To be with someone as they feel the joy of being deeply in touch with themselves is an incredible privilege.
